Stereophonics Stereophonics - You're My Star

Posted: Monday 17th November 2008

At this time of the year greatest hits collections are ten a penny. Already we’ve had retrospectives from Christina Aguilera, Simply Red, Hayley Westenra and Craig David. Now the Sterephonics are joining in with their collection titled Decade In The Sun. Of course no greatest hits release would be complete without a brand new single to draw interest and the Stereophonics have that with You’re My Star, a song they debuted live earlier this year at V.

Anyone expecting anything particularly new will be left disappointed. You’re My Star is the Stereophonics by numbers and does nothing to take the band in a new direction. If anything it takes them back to their early albums. Shimmering guitars provide the backdrop to Kelly Jones’ throaty vocal before launching into a typically solid chorus. The track stays on a level and offers us absolutely nothing in the way of a surprise.

You’re My Star will remind most of us that the Stereophonics are still lingering around but it won’t convert anyone who didn’t previously like the band. Stereophonics may have sold an impressive 9 million albums in the last decade but they don’t excite us anymore.
