The Ultrasonics have been trumpeted by Popjustice as a band to keep an eye on. Fronted by Johanna Lee Gervin, The Ultrasonics are a pop outfit that combines electronica with mainstream pop for an unapologetic mainstream sound. Following on from performing at Manchester Pride's Big Weekend alongside Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Alphabeat and Roisin Murphy, the band are gearing up for the release of their debut single Perfect Girl.

Perfect Girl is an adequate electro-pop track with Nintendo-style bleeps and whirrs and a decent vocal from Gervin. Sadly it isn't as good as a lot of other electro-pop music in the charts at the moment. Girls Aloud have led the way as far as pop music is concerned and Perfect Girl isn't a patch on any of their tracks. On The Ultrasonics' MySpace they claim to sound like Madonna, Lady Gaga and Pet Shop Boys but they have a long way to go before they reach that level of pop greatness.

The Ultrasonics have potential but they aren't yet as good as they seem to think they are. This kind of electro-dance goes in and out of fashion pretty quickly so it'll depend what the group does next as to whether they'll be sticking around to bother the charts.
