Now Play It began life as a website aiming to help wannabe musicians. The ides of the site was to provide tutorials from people in music to aid the learning of those wanting to play the guitar. Following on from the success of the website, Now Play It has released a tutorial DVD packed with tutorials and features to help you learn how to play guitar like a pro.

The idea behind Now Play It is fantastic. It signals the end of the days when you buy your first shiny, new guitar only to find the accompanying tutorial video is a big-haired rocker from the 70s. Now Play It makes learning guitar fun and it also makes it relevant to a modern audience. With tutorials from KT Tunstall, Graham Coxon and Turin Brakes (to name a few) new guitar players can learn from their idols rather than from some bloke with a dodgy perm they’ve never seen before. Each artist takes you through their song in bitesize chunks and it’s really easy to pick up your guitar and get the hang of it. The tutorials last on average about 20 minutes and each artist covers an impressive amount of ground in such a short space of time.

Alongside the main tutorials, Now Play It offers 9 music video tutorials from artists including Queen, Coldplay and Gorillaz. These play the original music video for the song accompanied by chord diagrams so you can strum along with them. These are the perfect next step once you’ve mastered the one-on-one tutorials with real musicians.

Additional features on the disc include featurettes on tuning and understanding chord diagrams. Both of these give a great basic understanding for beginners and provide the foundation for a healthy and successful guitar-playing future.

Now Play It is what newcomers to guitar have been crying out for. Being able to get tips from people you admire is fantastic and once you’ve worked through the DVD, you can log-on to the website and download more tutorials from a variety of other artists. Learning the guitar has never been so fun!
