New Single: DJ Ironik

Posted: Wednesday 20th August 2008

I Wanna Be Your Man, is the brand new single by DJ Ironik out on September 15th (digital) and September 22nd (physical). Released via Asylum Records, it sees the 20-year old north Londoner wearing his heart on his sleeve as he tries to win the affection of his first love. Produced by Agent X (Ne-Yo, Mariah Carey), it uses a sample from the Zapp and Rodger classic of the same title and is the second track to be lifted from his eagerly anticipated set – No Point In Wasting Tears, (September 29th).

Ironik's debut album - No Point In Wasting Tears comes out September 29th on the brand new Asylum Records label (a division of Atlantic) headed by Ben Cook. Home to such remarkable British talent as Alesha Dixon and the godfather of grime - Wiley whose number 2 hit, Wearing My Rolex has become one of this summer's anthems.

Effortlessly straddling the line between R&B, Grime, Pop and Hip Hop, the new single comes just as the DJ/Producer/MC's debut, Stay With Me, (which still resides in the UK top 40 an amazing 12 weeks after release) achieved Top 5 success and captured the attention of an entire generation. Since writing the song a year ago, it has become the torch song for young people around the country mourning the loss of friends to knife and gun crime. Now touted as the ‘anthem for broken Britain', what began as an underground internet sensation has gone over-ground and mainstream, stacking up a raft of unparalleled statistics.

Ironik started his career as a DJ aged 13 at Twice As Nice parties before progressing to pirate radio, production and eventually performing. Renowned for his skills on the decks it was not long before he was producing for the likes of Roll Deep but at the same time playing gigs all over Europe. Soon he was number 1 on digital TV's - Channel U for nearly 50 weeks with tracks recorded in his bedroom studio and receiving more than a million plays on his myspace page and countless views on his Youtube and Bebo pages. To date, he has had more than 8.9 million hits (growing by the thousands each day) and plays a never-ending string of live performances.

Written exclusively by Ironik himself, it's the not-so-secret diary of a young man growing up in uncertain times. He teams up with a talented pool of locally sourced young 20somethings from in and around the scene. Hot new kid on the block – Chipmunk, Blessed Beats (Rolex Sweep) and Tinchy Strider are but a few guests who make the party.
