Posted: Friday 4th April 2008

Jack Savoretti is a singer-songwriter on the rise. Having just completed a series of ‘busking’ shows at various Caffe Neros around the country, Jack released his new single, double A-side Gypsy Love/One Man Band this week. We caught up with him to talk about the single, the re-release of his album Between The Minds and to find out what he’s been up to so far this year.

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Born London, raised in Switzerland, by an Italian family, and attended an American school. I was fortunate enough to grow up travelling around Europe… Travelling has always been a fuel for the imagination and has had a lot to do with what I now find myself doing.

2. Tell us about your new single ‘Gypsy Love/One Man Band’

One Man Band is for all the folks you see walking around town with their guitars trying to make a living with music… Gypsy Love is a song I wrote a while back and like to leave up for interpretation… both of these songs are travelling songs

3. The deluxe edition of your debut ‘Between The Minds’ is due to hit the shops. What’s different about this edition?

After being asked for a live album while out on the road it made us want to give something as raw as the live show back to the fans without going into the studio trying to recreate a live show. We tried in every take of every song to perform and capture this collection of songs in a way I will probably never do again… we wanted them to be something special.

4. Recently you’ve been doing a Caffé Nero tour. What made you decide to do something like that?

Caffé Nero were kind enough to make us their ‘Artist of the month’, to which we responded, ‘can we come play a few shows’, to which they responded no, as they don’t have the set up for this… but once we told them we simply wanted to travel up and down the country busking at various cafes to get the music heard, and meet some fans, they supported us and let us get on our way….

5. You’ve performed at both Midem and SXSW this year, how did you find that?

Both events are very industry based , which always makes for some strange things to happen … however they were both great experiences…Midem is in the beautiful city of Cannes and South by South West is based in Austin Texas, which is probably one of the greatest cities in the world when it come to music… The feedback was tremendous, there was a great array of talent present and you feel the vibe around … they love it, and they can really play it….

6. What can fans expect from your UK tour in May?

Me and My songs….

7. What’s your favourite aspect of being a musician?

The travelling gives me a great sense of freedom, and the coming home gives me a great sense of comfort….plus I get to write songs, and call it my job….

8. Who were your influences growing up?

My parents have been important figures in my growing up….

9. What’s on your iPod at the moment?

Laura Marling, Jackson Brown, and Iron and Wine new record

10. What are your plans for the future?
